How the tools fit a bankruptcy matter, the documents involved and the rules they draft around.
A matter, from first call to last page
The first call
The Website Intake Assistant talks to a caller at any hour, collects their name and contact details, and saves the deadline they mention, such as a garnishment date, as an Inquiry.
The rules
Ask the AI Law Assistant about the counseling requirement, the means test or the automatic stay, with its sources. Matter Management keeps the dates you enter.
The letters and checklists
The Document Drafter writes the client letters and the document checklist for the petition. Save a target filing date and the draft is written a few days ahead.
The follow-through
Reply to the client, the creditor or the trustee with the Email Assistant. Each draft is saved for review and nothing is sent without you.
The documents a bankruptcy firm uses
These are real Document Drafter types. Lengths are for the document itself, and about 450 words fill a page.
Bankruptcy Petition
A petition and its supporting schedules, drafted from the client's debts, income and assets. Detailed length runs about 3,000 to 5,000 words. Professional and Enterprise.
Client Letter
Plain-English steps for the client, such as the counseling briefing, the documents to bring or what to do about a garnishment. Standard length runs about 400 to 700 words. Every plan.
Retainer Agreement
The engagement for a filing, with the scope, the flat fee and which court costs the client pays directly. Standard length runs about 1,600 to 2,600 words. Every plan.
Legal Memo
An internal memorandum on a means test or a dischargeability question, with authority left for you to fill in and verify. Standard length runs about 1,400 to 2,300 words. Every plan.
Checklist
A working checklist of the documents for a petition, such as pay stubs, tax returns and the counseling certificate. Standard length runs about 300 to 600 words. Professional and Enterprise.
Motion
A motion in a pending case, such as one to lift the automatic stay, with its argument and clearly marked places for case authority. Standard length runs about 1,500 to 2,800 words. Professional and Enterprise.
Bankruptcy rules come from the federal code
Bankruptcy is governed by the federal Bankruptcy Code, not state law, so this page does not use the state reference file. The table lists the sections the tools draft around, and the attorney runs every calculation.
| Matter | Where the rule comes from | What the tool does |
|---|---|---|
| Credit counseling | 11 U.S.C. § 109(h) | Drafts the reminder to complete the briefing within 180 days before filing. The attorney checks the certificate's date |
| Means test (Chapter 7) | 11 U.S.C. § 707(b) | Explains that income is compared with the state median for the household's size. The calculation is run by the attorney |
| Automatic stay | 11 U.S.C. § 362(a) | Explains that filing stops most collection, with exceptions. Which creditor actions are stopped depends on the case |
Confirm the current median figures and the court's local rules before you rely on them. The Bankruptcy Code and its figures are updated regularly.
What it leaves to the attorney
It does not decide whether to file
It drafts from the facts you give it. Whether bankruptcy is the right choice is for the attorney and the client to decide together.
It does not run the means test
It explains the test with its source. The attorney runs the calculation with the client's actual figures.
It does not file with the court
Nothing is submitted to a bankruptcy court or a trustee. Every petition, letter and email is a draft for an attorney to review and file.
It does not predict discharge
It does not estimate whether a debt will be discharged or what a client will keep.
